After a nervous victory over Burnley, the Hammers will be looking to pull themselves further away from the relegation zone with the visit of newly promoted Hull City. Last night was not exactly a vintage performance, though West Ham should have seen Burnley off by half time, such was their possession and dominance. Instead, Burnley could no longer play for the draw and came out in the second halkf and were it not for some luck and solid keeping, we could have been looking at one point instead of three.
On to the next opponents then, and Hull have a pretty drab away record, as the doughnut of truth tells us.
Their last five away results make bad reading for them in particular
Not exactly the form of champions. By all accounts, they gave Spurs a game for an hour last night, but they soon crumbled under pressure. It suggests to me the importance of going 1-0 up against them and then seizing on the mental fragility of the squad and their ability to come back from a losing position. I think they will give it a go and be less defensive minded than Burnley, but an early goal from us may open the floodgates.
